With 750 art pictures, KUNSTkopie.de went online in 1999. Nine years later, there are over 170,000 images from over 20,000 painters available in its online catalog. The idea of Peter and Hardy Schulz - offering the possiblity to order online a custom size fine art print - was proven to be successful through the years. An early experience
In his twenties, Hardy Schulz started to work with his father in his printing plant and got accustomed with digital printing. He created DINA3 (12 x 17 inches) posters from a 20 Deutsch Mark bill, or created panles from postcards to hang on walls.
In 1999, he created KUNSTkopie.de with his father. They put together their skills: Peter as an experienced manager in the printing industry, Hardy as a graduate in marketing and internet savvy. And shared their love for art. The core concept was to edit famous paintings, print on demand and sell the fine art prints. A year later, they added the framing service and the number of pictures available online grew steadily. So did the interest from end customers as well as professionals. They appreciated the possibility to manufacture the art prints on demand, to any size.
Enjoy art without limits
In 2003, they expanded their business by finding marketing partners in France, UK and USA. The business in Switzerland and Austria is beeing taken care of in Germany. A representation in the Netherlands is currently being put in place. Exports now represent over 50% of their yearly turn over. And KUNSTkopie.de has 15 employees to run the daily activity.
Art prints on canvas account for over 50% of the turn over, the framing for 30% and the hand painted oil copies for about 15%. On top of selling reproductions of famous and classic paintings, the company also edits art works from less famous contemporary artists. This offer for art reproductions on demand of contemporary artists is unique . "We experience every day that some art fans envetually end up buying on our web site after searching for years for their favorite art work", says Hardy Schulz.
Quote from Hardy Schulz
"in 2008, we printed our first paper catalog for art business professionals. The layout is high-class and invites our customers to look through our catalog. The preparation work with art business professionals for this catalog was very effective and a lot of fun."
