Canaletto, aka Bernado Belotto (1697 - 1768)

Views of Venice

The painter, draftsman and etcher Canaletto was born in 1697, in Venice. The artist visited Rome in 1719 and 1742, where he painted landscapes. After his trips to England, between 1746-50 and 1751-53, Canaletto went back to Venice, where he became a member of the Academy and died in 1768.

The artist's work is influenced by the link between exact reproductions of Venice with a particular expression of light.
