Paul Gauguin - Colourful Jungle (1848 - 1903)

In 1848 Paul Gauguin was born in Paris on 7th of June as a son of a journalist. When he was a little child he lived with his parents in Lima (Peru) where his father died. His mother died when he joined the marine. Afterwards he worked from 1871 to 1883 for a Parisian stockbroker. In this time, in 1873, he married the Dane Mette Sophie Gad. Due to his passion to arts Mette Sophie took just an underpart in his life. He spent a lot of time for painting. Due to his friendship to the painter Pissaro he painted impressionistic art works. After a journey to Brittany, Panama and Martinique in 1888 he came to see van Gogh in Arles. From now he lived in insufficient economic circumstances.
Gauguin painted works of the Brittany and the Provence as well. But at all he became one of the biggest artists of modern art with his works of Tahiti with colourful life of wilderness. Beside artists like Cézanne, van Gogh and Munch Gauguin contributed redeeming the Impressionism with a new expressionistic art style.
