Artist Joan Ledang lives and works in Lynæs, Denmark. She is self-taught and in addition to her paintings she also makes art installations, furniture, illustrations and much more.
Joan works with different media and her works are very representative: she chooses elements and materials according to the stories she imagines they can tell. She usually starts with a photograph, a quote or a clipping, from which characters and narratives are born. It's a spontaneous and impulsive process that is always changing, resulting in her paintings often being composed of many layers. Her stroke is clever, somewhat naive and often humorous, and she likes to play with words in her paintings. Joan is fascinated by the interaction between the viewer and the painting: what kind of stories do you think emerge when others look at your paintings?
