The works of the graphic artist, painter, and sculptor (including lithographs, etchings, copper engravings, woodcuts, and sculptures) are influenced by serious and realistic personal circumstances and experiences. The artist developed her own artistic style, shaped by expressionism and realism.
Käthe Kollwitz's father nurtured his child's artistic talent from an early age, allowing Käthe to receive instruction at the Ladies' Academy of the Association of Berlin Female Artists and later study under Ludwig Herterich in Munich. She later moved to Berlin with her husband, a doctor, and gained her first recognition there through the "Great Berlin Exhibition" in 1898.
On April 22, 1945, Käthe Kollwitz passed away in Moritzburg near Dresden.
